Super-directional
Sounds from the front are clearly captured, and ambient sounds suppressed. A great choice for shooting or streaming videos where the subject speaks directly in front of the microphone.
Unidirectional
Sounds from a wide region in front of the unit are captured. Uni-directional mode is a great choice for recording conferences and meetings.
Omnidirectional
Sounds from all directions are captured with equal sensitivity. Omni-directional mode captures sound like a typical built-in camera mic, but with enhanced clarity and sensitivity and is recommended for recording environmental or ambient sounds.
Super-directional (Rear)
Sounds from the rear of the unit are captured, while suppressing sound from the front. Super-directional (Rear) mode is ideal for narrating while shooting scenery.
Super-directional (Front + Rear)
Sounds from the front and rear of the unit are captured with equal sensitivity, while sounds from the left and right are suppressed. Super-directional mode enables recording of sounds from the subject in front of the unit as well as the voice of the videographer, and ensures clear sound when recording interviews.
Super-directional (Front / Rear) separate
Sounds from the front (1ch) and rear (2ch) of the unit are captured with equal sensitivity, and onto separate audio channels, while sounds from the left and right are suppressed. Super-directional mode enables individual volume adjustment of the front and rear audio after video recording, so you can dial in the perfect balance of audio from in front and behind the camera in the edit.
Stereo
Realistic video recording is possible by clearly localising the left (1ch) and right (2ch) sound sources. Stereo mode is perfect for shooting video of moving objects, such as racing cars and trains, or musical performances in theatres.
Ultra-directional
The microphone picks up the target sound from the front (within approximately 30-degree width) while effectively suppressing the other sound, by dynamically adapting to the ambient sound in the surroundings. The Ultra-directional mode is a good choice for shooting scenes such as interviews or selfies where the subject is always in front of the microphone.
Intuitive directivity selector dial
A dial that allows easy, intuitive selection of pickup patterns is provided on the rear of the microphone. Simply align the dial pointer with the desired pickup pattern. A lock button in the centre of the dial allows the dial to be locked to prevent accidental changes.
Direct digital audio transfer for high-quality sound
When mounted on a Multi Interface (MI) Shoe equipped with a digital audio interface, the audio signal is directly transmitted to the camera in the digital domain. No signal degradation occurs, so audio quality remains pristine.
Internal digital noise cut filter for clear recording
Distracting continuous background noise is effectively suppressed by a digital noise-cut filter for clear sound recording. A low-cut filter is also provided to reduce wind noise, the hum of air conditioning, and other low-frequency vibration. Suppressing noise at the recording stage reduces workload during post processing, enhancing overall efficiency.
Fur-type wind screen included
A fur-type wind screen is included. Wind noise can be reduced and sound can be captured even when shooting outdoors in windy conditions.
Effective mechanical noise suppression
The design dampens shock and vibration, for effective minimisation of low-frequency vibration noise. The cable-less design also eliminates mechanical transmission of vibration noise to the microphone via cables.
Compact size for better portability
The impressively compact size (length 64.4 mm) and light weight (65 g) give a high degree of shooting freedom and mobility. The microphone does not intrude when shooting selfies, or when using even a very wide-angle lens. The compact size also makes it easy to use with gimbals and grips.
Battery & cable-free operation
Multi Interface (MI) Shoe support allows battery- and cable-free shooting, allowing recording to start as soon as the microphone is attached. Power is supplied directly from the camera, so you can continue shooting without worrying about mic battery levels. And the camera’s vari-angle LCD monitor can be used in any position, unobstructed by a microphone cable.
4-channel recording supported
The ECM-M1 supports 4-channel recording on compatible cameras, with channels 3 and 4 able to make omnidirectional backup safety recordings. These channels can record safety tracks in omnidirectional mode (fixed for channel 3, and –20 dB fixed for channel 4) while the main audio is recorded to channels 1 and 2 using the selected directivity pattern.
Audio settings
Comprehensive, clearly marked controls make it easy to adjust and confirm all microphone settings at a glance for worry-free operation.
